Children and young people phlebotomy services

Due to social distancing safety reasons, Birmingham Heartlands Hospital has changed the way that children can access the Paediatric Phlebotomy walk-in service.

Paediatric Phlebotomy will be via appointment only.

Walk ins will no longer be accepted.

Patients will need a referral from a GP 1st:

1. A GP should firstly assess the urgency for a child they feel needs a blood test.

2. Blood form requests should then be completed and patients should be asked to telephone the following number: 0121 424 1528, to book an appointment.

Heartlands Hospital have increased their phlebotomist capacity and appointment slots to enable an effective service to be provided.

The paediatric phlebotomy service is for children aged 0 - 18.

The opening times are:

Monday - Thursday 8.30am – 4.40pm and Friday 8.30am – 4.10pm.

The Phlebotomy Service at Birmingham Children’s Hospital remains open during this time, however in order to ensure to protect patients and staff and ensure appropriate safety measures and social distancing, access to this service is by appointment service only.

The paediatric phlebotomy service is for children aged 0 - 16.

Blood form requests should be completed and patients should be asked to telephone the following number: 0121 333 9304 to book an appointment between the hours of 8.30am – 4:30pm.

Please note the service is closed between 1:30pm - 2pm for lunch
